Bioinformatics Analyst
The newly formed Texas AgriLife Genomics and
Bioinformatics Center is currently recruiting a bioinformatics
analyst to join our team. The successful candidate will assist and
guide a broad range of clients/biologists to solve ground
breaking next generation sequencing analytical challenges.
Texas AgriLife Research is Texas's premier research agency in
agriculture and natural sciences. The AgriLife Genomics and
Bioinformatics Center brings together a team of exceptional
genomic, bioinformatic, molecular, and computational scientists
to meet the next generation sequencing and bioinformatics needs
of the AgriLife community and beyond, offering world class
sample and data processing as well as individualized consulting
services.
Job Responsibilities:
-
Will be responsible for analysis and processing of data from
next generation sequencing technologies.
- Will be responsible for developing and maintaining analysis
workflow, reporting, and productivity tools
- Will be responsible to testing, and implementation of new
bioinformatics tools
- Will be responsible for handling very large biological data-sets
in a high performance computational environment
Required Skills:
- Tenacious Problem Solving Mindset
- Experience with next generation sequence analysis.
- Deep understanding and experience in Perl and/or Python
- Experience with major public genomic databases, such as
Genbank, UniGene, Ensembl, and Entrez
- Experience in a high performance computer environments and
associated job scheduling systems.
- Ability to work as both part of a team and independently.
- Ability to derive data analysis requirements from investigators
who do not have a sophisticated understanding of bioinformatics
technology.
Desired Skills:
-
Proficiency in: Java, C++, .Net, VB, PHP, est.
- Database design skills and experience
- Experience working in a Linux system environment
- Background in algorithms for large data problems
Education:
Ph.D. in Bioinformatics, Genetics, Computer Science, Physics,
or other related field. OR M.S. in Bioinformatics or related field
with significant experience.
