Sr. Project Engineer - Large Engine Performance Development ****BELOIT, WISCONSIN****

Provide technical and program expertise and mentoring for Cross-Functional Large Engine engineering program team activities.

Your Responsibilities:

Skill Team Roles:

The Engine Development Skill Team provides the combustion system development, performance development, air and fuel system specification and development, and engine calibration expertise to projects.

The specific roles of a Project Engineer Senior in this effort include:

  1. Defines, plans, and performs combustion, performance development, engine calibration and other relevant engineering project work within project team as required.
  2. Plans and manages engineering resources according to project requirements.
  3. Works on specific phases or aspects of projects such as technical studies, preparation of specifications, technical plans, engine testing, data analysis and validation.
  4. Supports/ensures data quality and writes technical project reports.
  5. Reviews project for compliance with engineering principles, company standards, and customer requirements, including opinions and interpretations.
  6. Coordinates activities concerned with techncial development, scheduling, and resolving engineering test issues.
  7. Defines, executes and supports engine performance and emissions research and development activities.
  8. Facilitates transfer of large engine expertise between PEI and Graz.
  9. Supports, organizes, and leads customer meetings.
  10. Other duties as required to insure project success.

Qualifications & Skills:

A Project Engineer Senior is expected to have demonstrated abilities in the following areas:

  1. Commercial
    1. Quote Leader for medium size programs
    2. Support the Business Development process for specific clients
    3. Efficient on time delivery of program expectations with consistently good customer feedback
    4. Active involvement in Annual Review and Work Planning Process
  2. Technical
    1. Identify, initiate, and support opportunities for technology development, process improvements, tool development, and knowledge capture and re-use
    2. Provide effective mentorship for other staff in areas of expertise
    3. Published at least 2 papers accepted by a professional organization or 2 patents awarded
    4. Familiarity with regulatory and market segment requirements and end-user expectations for large engine applications
    5. Demonstrated capability in performance, indicating and emission data acquisition instrumentation and processes, diagnostics of test issues, and correct interpretation of test results
    6. Ability to identify and resolve engine mechanical and performance related problems
    7. Independent functionality in at least four of the following areas:
      • Combustion system development (diesel and/or gas)
      • Fuel system specification and development
      • Ignition system specification and development
      • Turbocharging and EGR system specification and development
      • Engine rating development and calibration (base)
  3. Relational
    1. Leadership of small to medium size technical teams
    2. Working effectively with customers and other program staff and team members
    3. Accountability for individual and team delivery
    4. Negotiation for overall success
    5. Program and resource coordination
    6. Active pursuit of personal and departmental improvement
    7. Effective communication with all levels of the program team
    8. Ability to resolve technical and commercial problems while working remotely from AVL Plymouth/Ann Arbor locations
