The first four books are all in german. Two books are especially useful for scientist: HHS and S. HHS is easier to read than S; but S goes far beyond HHS. A very compact introduction is B. For schools we recommend ScSc. "The Cartoon Guide to Statistics" is excellent when read together with a more "serious" book. It treats Statistics on University level and is (surprise!) mathematically correct!

The following suggestions are rigorous introductions for mathematicians. Krengel (in German) is a brief and substantial introduction. CH, L and BiDo are classics. L is from the mathematical point of view the easiest to read, CH medium and BiDo tough.
